10/8/2008

As we enter the month of October, it is hard to believe that we have been away from Owego for almost two months. Looking back on the summer of 2008, “Brothers of Owego”, it was clearly one of the best summers ever. A few things helped to make this summer such a great time in Greeley. We were fortunate to have an unbelievable set of camper leaders in the tents and arguably the best staff ever. Pioneer Village welcomed back Andy Hagon who helped to inject some unforgettable moments into the division. Fortunately for him and us, Phil Smith was there to keep him in check. Up top, Dan Ritterman and Dave Hannah once again led the seniors. The Hi-Seniors also welcomed back an Owego veteran in John Hassett. John along with James Brownlee helped to provide a strong base to a very camp spirited group.
Our two big special events, Olympics and Frontier Week, were both very successful. After a grueling and intense game of Escape from Owego, Olympics broke out. Rain made its way into Olympics but we manage to get through it. Captain Michael K helped to lead the country of Norway to the victory. Frontier Week started with a mystery bus ride for the tents, which ended with a traditional and massive fire on the upper field. Although we had little rain this summer, the inclement weather made its way into Frontier Week. However, we were able to extend the event by one day and conclude after the final social. Zach P and the tribe of Nakoda were victorious.
We are already busy planning for 2009. Trying our very best to secure some of the great counselors we had this past summer to make a return visit. This past Saturday we had a nice get together in Livingston. A good number of campers made there way for some ice cream and cookies. Representing the tents of 09 were Jason G and Eric M. As well we were joined by Justin S, Justin B, Sean K, Sam U, Ethan R, and Tyler and Ethan I.
Our next big event will be on November 16th in Cherry Hill. Check back for more details.
