We can\u2019t believe it\u2019s spring and the 2017 camping season will be here before we know it!\u00a0 We want you and your child to be as comfortable and as prepared as possible in the days leading up to camp.\u00a0 We thought it would be fun and helpful to share some fun facts about us so everyone is \u201cin the know.\u201d \u00a0Lake Owego Camp is full of tradition, rituals and special names and each one is so meaningful to both the campers and staff.<\/p>\n

Camp Colors:<\/strong>\u00a0Blue and White<\/p>\n

Camp Motto:<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cLeave your Image at the Gate.”
\nWhen entering through the gates of Owego, we want every camper to know that camp is a special place where you can be your true self.<\/p>\n

\u201cSFA<\/strong>\u201d
\nWe call it \u201cSFA\u201d (you can say it as a word- put the \u201cSF\u201d together and then add an \u201cAH\u201d)<\/p>\n

Every night after dinner and\u00a0on Thursday<\/span>\u00a0mornings, this special time is for campers to play freely. With counselors supervising, children get to choose from various activities such as basketball, followed by some tennis, and then head to the lake to go fishing.\u00a0 Whatever they’re in the mood for that day!<\/p>\n

Olympics and Frontier Week<\/strong>
\nTwo big all-camp events. Olympics is in the first session and Frontier Week is in the second session. The camp is split into six teams, different countries for Olympics and different Native American Indian tribes for Frontier week. The two events start with an exciting, surprise \u201cbreakout.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Village<\/strong>
\nThe location of the Junior and Intermediate bunks, grades 2nd-6th. All bunks are named after pioneers.<\/p>\n

The Ridge<\/strong>
\nThe location of the Senior and Hi-Senior bunks and tents, grades 7th-11th. All bunks are named after Native American Indian Tribes.\u00a0Many of camp\u2019s fields, courts and venues are named after camp\u2019s founding family as well as many old-timers.<\/p>\n

\u201cHughie Black Center\u201d<\/strong>
\nThe indoor basketball court, weight room and fencing room. Named after Hughie and Selma Black, the founders of the camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cRobinson\u2019s Pool\u201d<\/strong>
\nNamed after our long-time head of pool and the original Papa Polar Bear.<\/p>\n

\u201cShelly\u2019s Cookout\u201d<\/strong>
\nLocation of our\u00a0Thursday<\/span>\u00a0BBQ lunches and our end of Olympics Steak dinner. Named after Shelly Silver, long-time director of camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cKyle\u2019s Gathering”<\/strong>
\nA special area in camp for campers and counselors to relax, reflect and hang out. Named after current co-director Kyle Silver.<\/p>\n

\u201cJacoby Field\u201d<\/strong>
\nThis is our upper field at camp where we play soccer, football, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, and many other special events at camp. Named after long-time director, Tom Jacoby. Tom\u2019s daughter, Melissa, currently works at Owego.<\/p>\n

\u201cSouth Courts\u201d<\/strong>
\nOne of our two sets of basketball courts. Named after Bill South, current Junior Head Counselor.<\/p>\n

\u201cScotty\u2019s Stage\u201d<\/strong>
\nCamp\u2019s covered stage where we gather to watch camp\u2019s incredible shows.\u00a0 Also used for rainy day activities and various other indoor camp activities.\u00a0 Named after Scotty Myers, current head of Creative Arts.<\/p>\n
