Ticks! Mosquitos! Oh My!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i><b>A Note from the Health Center to our Camp Parents:<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;d like to take a moment to share our plan of action for an\u00a0increased risk associated with flea, tick and mosquito bites\u00a0throughout the United States. Camp has been taking steps to minimize exposure for our campers and prevent the spread of disease. In addition to the measures outlined below, camp\u00a0regularly consults with the\u00a0Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations to update our protocols.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prevention<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Outside lawn chemical professionals have been hired to treat all fields and field perimeters with <span class=\"il\">flea<\/span>and\u00a0<span class=\"il\">tick<\/span>\u00a0control as well as areas around bunks, buildings, and activity areas with <span class=\"il\">flea<\/span>and\u00a0<span class=\"il\">tick<\/span>\u00a0control.<\/li>\n<li>All trails and paths at camp are treated with <span class=\"il\">flea<\/span>and\u00a0<span class=\"il\">tick<\/span>\u00a0control.<\/li>\n<li>An outside professional pest control company has been contracted to regularly treat for rodents, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Grass is cut frequently and brush is trimmed back in regularly trafficked areas.<\/li>\n<li>Application of CDC approved bug spray throughout the day as needed for activities in wooded areas. There are also bug spray stations throughout camp.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education and Practice<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All counselors have training sessions on\u00a0<span class=\"il\">ticks<\/span>\u00a0and the counselor&#8217;s roles in health care, including\n<ul>\n<li>Hygiene, shower hour self-check prompting,\u00a0<span class=\"il\">tick<\/span>\u00a0checks after hikes, walks in the woods, and campfires<\/li>\n<li>Basic\u00a0<span class=\"il\">tick<\/span>\u00a0prevention, best practices, bug and bite identification<\/li>\n<li>Camper clothing coverage, including long pants and sleeves on hikes<\/li>\n<li>Avoiding brushy areas, high grass and leaf litter.\u00a0 Walking in the center of trails.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Nurse education during training\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"il\">Tick<\/span>checks, identification, removal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Full body checks after all hikes and walks in wooded areas.\n<ul>\n<li>A note: Nurses and counselors prompt campers to self check in and around the bathing suit area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Check clothing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please don&#8217;t hesitate to call us with questions or concerns.
