{"id":673,"date":"2015-08-01T11:00:46","date_gmt":"2015-08-01T16:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lakeowego.com\/blog\/?p=673"},"modified":"2015-08-01T11:03:20","modified_gmt":"2015-08-01T16:03:20","slug":"freedos-fun-moments-mid-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.lakeowego.com\/blog\/freedos-fun-moments-mid-summer","title":{"rendered":"Freedo&#8217;s Fun Moments, Mid-summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lakeowego.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC00317.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-674\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lakeowego.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC00317-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00317\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lakeowego.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC00317-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lakeowego.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC00317-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Wow\u2026is the summer flying by!! \u00a0Its hard to believe only there are only two weeks left.\u00a0 We have so much planned coming up which all leads up to\u00a0everyone\u2019s favorite\u2026Frontier Week!!\u00a0 Below are some of my favorite highlights from the past couple of weeks&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The awesome\u00a0Olympic Break Out with campers determining what team they were on by finding a baseball card with their picture and team name at the Silverdome.\u00a0 The Owego Olympics is a three day athletics competition with the camp divided into six teams.\u00a0 The teams were Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Mexico, South Africa and Sweden.\u00a0 In the end, Mexico was the winner by two points over Sweden in the closest Olympics in decades.\u00a0 The sportsmanship and team work exhibited by the campers was exemplary.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>The Off-Off-Off Broadway production of Peter Pan at Owego.\u00a0 The Owego adapted production was fantastic and a major kudos to Director, Scotty Myers, for writing and directing\u00a0the play.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Ahhh\u2026the joys of summer time and being at camp\u2026campers cooling off from the high temperatures at the lake and pool during 6<sup>th<\/sup> period.\u00a0 Nothing like having fun in the water in the heat of the summer. There is nothing like Rec Swim at LOC.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Owego winning the U15, U13 and U11 Pike County Camp Sports Championships and the U11 Pike County Camp Basketball Championships.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0We ended the 1st session with\u00a0a\u00a0<\/strong><strong>fantastic slide show chronicling the fun we all had during first session. Please check it out on vimeo.com\/lakeowegocamp<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0A true highlight of my summer was\u00a0leadin<\/strong><strong>\u00a0the Little Red Wagon song around the Junior camp-fire with Bill, Ron and Fernando. I hadn&#8217;t done that since I was a camper here many, many, many years ago. It was the AARP version\u2026LOL.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Saying goodbye to our 1st session campers was tough. We really grow so close and you realize the true Brotherhood of Owego in the friendships and bonds that are made at camp. As we welcomed the 2nd session campers, we are reminded how fast the summer is going and we better take advantage of every second!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Visiting Day was fantastic. \u00a0It was so nice to meet all the parents. Now I can see why we have such fantastic, kind\u00a0and well-balanced young men here at LOC!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u201cSwitch\u201d Day with Timber Tops was a nice change of pace for the Juniors and \u201cOwegoland\u201d with all the inflatables was a huge hit! The Juniors had LOC all to themselves for a couple days while the Seniors and Hi-Seniors were away on trips.\u00a0 They enjoyed being the BMOC\u2019s of camp.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>I personally had an awesome time when I took out 8 campers on a 30 foot Hunter sailboat on Lake Wallenpaupak.\u00a0 Campers learned basics on sailing, rig the boat, sail with a main and jib, sail along with a spinnaker, and each had a turn to skipper the boat using the rudder. \u00a0Last time I was Captain of a vessel was April 12, 1912\u2026the Titanic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>The Krav Maga martial arts workshop\u00a0was amazing.\u00a0 We had a\u00a0Krav Maga\u00a0specialist demonstrate various techniques\u00a0to three very enthusiastic\u00a0groups.
