\nIn the early days at Lake Owego Camp, we woke up each day to the sound of a bugle and our Director\u00a0calling out \u201cRise and Shine!\u201d Sometimes he even played\u00a0the song on the bugle (do you know the Rise and Shine song?), followed by what to wear, \u201clongs and longs\u201d (long sleeves and long pants) if there was a chill in the air or \u201cshorts and shorts\u201d on a sunny summer day. We loved hearing those words, rise and shine. It was a call to take on the day, be your best, get up and get going.\u00a0 We\u2019d brush our teeth, comb our hair and head out of our bunk and down to line-up.<\/div>\n

At line-up, we\u2019d stand together as a bunk and one camper would step forward, salute the Director
\nand say, \u201dAll present and accounted for, Sir!\u201d \u00a0And if someone in the bunk was away, maybe in the infirmary or on a canoe trip, it would be, \u201cOne absent, but accounted for, Sir!\u201d<\/div>\n

We think about those camp mornings a lot these days.\u00a0 We\u2019re headed into a new year and a new camp season, Lake Owego\u2019s 55th. It may be winter, but before you know it, spring. Then, the best season of all, summer. It\u2019s a new year, a new beginning, a new morning. Adventure and fun awaits. It\u2019s time to get up and take on the day. It\u2019s time to get going. And just like a bunk at line up, stick together. At camp it\u2019s your bunk, but the rest of the year it\u2019s your friends and family. Make sure that the people who are important to you are in your thoughts, that they are \u201call present and accounted for,\u201d always. In life, like at lineup, when you are excited to take on the day, this new year, don\u2019t be afraid to show it! Try your best. Stick together. Don\u2019t give up. Make it count. Dream big.<\/div>\n
