Some days at camp are cozy and confined, with all of us physically present, doing what we love at our summer home. Other days, like today, have us spread out in different locations, engaged in exciting adventures beyond Owego’s front gate.
The 10th graders embarked on day 2 of The Grand Owegan, after canoeing 14 miles down the Delaware yesterday and sleeping in tents overnight. The climbing portion of the trip commenced this morning. Rick’s Rocks is a southeastern facing cliff along the Kittatinny Ridgeline in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Our campers scaled the cliff using their best climbing skills with the help of our expertly trained Ropes and Adventure staff. Tomorrow, they will give their arms a rest and set out on a 6-mile hike.

The Senior division headed to Costas after breakfast and inspection. They enjoyed a morning of Go-Karts, mini golf, and bumper boats — and, of course, ice cream! We can’t think of a better way to beat the heat!

The Top Cooks crew traveled to the MOKA Origins factory in Honesdale today for some Willy Wonka-esque chocolate making. Our chefs-in-training learned about the chocolate-making process, then got to try their hands at it! If only they had brought some back for the rest of us!
In addition to all of these fantastic activities which kept Owegans busy all day long, today was the official start of the Greeley Games. Throughout the summer, there will be days when we compete against Timber Tops and Pine Forest in various sports, creative arts, and even Chess! Our campers kicked it off today with a fierce art competition!
Do you think we were tired at this point in the day? Absolutely not!
After dinner and SFA, our divisions engaged in various Evening Activities. Juniors played a game called “Where’s Woody?” which involved rotating through stations and gathering clues to find a little dinosaur action figure. Seniors had a pool party with a cookout and beach volleyball. And the 9th graders continued to enjoy being the Big Men on Campus while the 10th and 11th graders are away on their respective trips!
Tomorrow morning is the 5th consecutive and final Polar Bear plunge of first session! Who will go the distance and earn a t-shirt? Furthermore, who will now be entitled to call himself a true “Polar Bear?” The excitement is palpable!
