Hiking Through Life

“The secret to a good morning is to watch the sunrise with an open heart.”

— Anthony T. Hincks

Our Grand Owegans wrapped up the Grand Owegan with a day 3 wake-up at dawn to watch the sunrise from Worthington State Forest. As they rubbed the sleep from their eyes, our 10th graders reflected on the previous two days of canoeing and climbing. The third leg of the journey still lay ahead. As the sun glowed brighter in the sky and cast its warmth over the campsite, the boys grabbed their packs, laced up their boots, and set off on their hike. They traveled about 6 miles before hopping on the vans and heading back to camp. Good news — they made it back in time for lunch!

The Greeley Games continued today with competitions at Owego, Timber Tops, and Pine Forest. Campers faced off at soccer, flag football, basketball, and Ga Ga. There was an archery competition, and even a fishing tournament. That’s the beauty of the Greeley Games. The competition goes way beyond traditional team sports. Campers can excel at individual events, team sports, and sometimes both! No matter where your strengths lie, there will be a way for everyone to get involved!

Tonight’s evening activities included Juniors playing “Moon Man’s Mission,” which was a scaled-up scavenger hunt. Inters played Capture the Flag, Seniors played various Olympic sports, including Frisbee and basketball, and Hi-Seniors had Speed ball leagues on the tennis courts. At the conclusion of evening activity, the 9th graders hopped on the bus and traveled down the road to Timber Tops for Teen Canteen.

As we eagerly await outr Tents’ return from Costa Rica on Friday, many at camp have begun waging bets on when Olympics might break. While no one knows the true answer, you can rest assured that you will hear about it HERE first! Keep your eyes peeled on social media and read the blog nightly for all of the exciting details!
