We’re Almost in the Home Stretch!

When you look at the calendar and realize we’ve now been in camp for 5 full weeks, it seems like it all happened in the blink of an eye. But the reality is, we’ve packed so much goodness into those 35 days. And today was filled with lots of goodness!

We hosted another Play Day today, with more prospective Owegans visiting camp with their families and trying out many of the wonderful activities offered. The weather cooperated beautifully, as if the camp gods were smiling down on us and enticing our visitors to enjoy the glorious day and come back next summer for more! Yes, we’re already thinking about Summer 2026. The truth is, it helps distract us from the impending end of Summer 2025.

August weekends often bring special guests to camp, and we were lucky enough to welcome back quite a few former campers and staff today. As these VIPs walked around, greeting old friends and soaking up the nostalgia of summers past, they reminisced about their days at Owego. Memories were shared. Stories were revisited. Songs were played. You can take the Owegan out of camp, but you can’t take camp out of the Owegan. Our Brothers in Blue are always embraced at camp, no matter how long it has been since they last stepped foot inside our gates!

In camp culinary news, cooking with Noriko was back today, as a lucky group of campers learned how to make Ramen! This wasn’t your ordinary, college-student-at-2 am Ramen — this was the real deal! This Ramen was authentic and delicious, and once again, we were not invited to taste. The dining hall was filled with the aroma of noodles and pure comfort! We are so appreciative of Noriko and her willingness to share her recipes with us!

Tonight’s evening activity was divisional campfires for all, and it was a perfectly cool evening to throw on longs and longs and curl up on your Crazy Creek next to your buddies. Everyone sat around the campfire and listened to the stories and chants that had been passed down from previous generations of Owegans and that were now being passed down to them. As the flames curled toward the sky and into the dark night, campers and staff alike knew that they were a part of something special. Not just for 12 more days, but for a lifetime.
