Olympics 2014 has come to an end almost at the same time as our 1st session of camp. Its a fantastic way to finalize the 1st 1/2 of the summer with ultimate in sportmanship, brotherhood, teamwork and spirit. We divide the camp in to 6 teams of different countries. Each country is represented by a color and everyone gets a shirt in their team color. The teams this year are Red Latvia, Light Blue Israel, Navy Blue Dominican Republic, Yellow Senagal, Green Hungary and White Uruguay.
Olympics began with an exciting breakout followed by our traditional ceremony of the torch lighting and naming of captains and head coaches. Our torchlighters are the winners of the junior and senior triathlon from the previous year. The captains and head coaches are chosen by our Key Staff and it is an extreme honor to be chosen.
All different types of team and individual sports are played during the 3 days. Basketball, tennis, soccer, water polo, kickball, bombardment, ultimate frisbee and the exciting triathlon to name a few, as well as some adventure activities such as lake races and the rock wall. The evenings bring us team relay events we call Olympic Rings and Ultimate Challenge that combine athleticism and intelligence.
The highly anticipated Country Presentations makes up the final night. Each team performs a formation and performance that tells a story about their country and how it relates to camp on our beloved Jacoby Field. This presentation is set to music that is later used in our 1st session video.
We end these incredible three days with another traditional Lake Owego closing ceremony. Each flag is dropped one by one outside the Silverdome starting with the 6th place team. It is a moment never forgotten by the captains and one of the greatest camp nights of the summer.
