We’re in an #owegowednesday State of Mind

Imagine waking up in camp with the birds chirping, the outside temperature a pleasant 63 degrees, and the aroma of waffles wafting through the air.

So began our Wednesday. On social media, we’ve dubbed this #owegowednesday. It’s a weekly reminder of just how special our campers, staff, and general vibe are! Owego Wednesdays allow us to take a step back and reflect on just how lucky we are to spend our summers with our fellow Brothers in Blue.

Golden, buttery waffles for breakfast is a perfect way to start any day. Another important component of Owego Wednesday is showing our competitive spirit and outstanding sportsmanship. The 10th graders did just that this morning when they participated in an intercamp flag football game at Timber Tops!

Finally, Owego Wednesday celebrates everyone’s strengths and interests — not just on the fields and courts, but in the kitchen as well. Top Cooks, one of our most popular optional activities, traveled to Old School Farm in Honesdale for pizza-making. This summer, we had so many Owegans sign up for Top Cooks that they were split into two separate groups. If your Top Cooks camper didn’t make pizza today, he will definitely go a different day. Mamma Mia, those were some delicious homemade pizzas!

Back at camp, we enjoyed chicken tenders for lunch. It was another letter-writing day, so Rest Hour had campers furiously writing to family and friends — with visions of Canteen treats dancing in their heads! By now, campers have caught on that Mondays and Thursdays are Canteen days. They may not have any idea what the date is, but they never forget a Canteen day. If you haven’t yet received your first letter from camp, don’t panic. Over the mountains and through the woods, the mail WILL eventually reach your home!

After an Italian feast for dinner, campers shifted into their Evening Activity state of mind. While Juniors played Steal the Bacon, it was Pirate Punch for Seniors and basketball leagues for Hi-Seniors. Then it was the 9th graders’ turn to have their first-ever Teen Canteen (as newly anointed Hi-Seniors, you see). Did it live up to the hype? Oh, to be a fly on the wall of a camp social!
