{"id":792,"date":"2016-04-04T11:04:13","date_gmt":"2016-04-04T16:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lakeowego.com\/blog\/?p=792"},"modified":"2016-04-04T11:04:13","modified_gmt":"2016-04-04T16:04:13","slug":"camp-college-preparedness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lakeowego.com\/blog\/camp-college-preparedness","title":{"rendered":"Camp and College Preparedness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">As high school seniors are making their final college decisions, we\u2019re reminded of how grateful we are for camp;<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>there\u2019s just nothing like camp in preparing kids for college!<\/b><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>After all, embarking on a new adventure by yourself, without the comfort of familiar faces, is something you will have already experienced, survived, and become good at once you\u2019ve been to camp! You\u2019ll be great wherever you go!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">College is all about new experiences and<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>breaking out of your comfort zone<\/b>. We do this every day at camp: on the zip line, on the tennis courts, performing in a play, in our bunks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Sharing a room with a roommate in college? No problem! We know all about<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>building a community<\/b>! Our campers have shared a bunk with many more and for many years already! Living in a bunk with others strengthens social and communication skills and teaches campers effective strategies for conflict resolution with people who are both similar to and different from themselves!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Both camp and college require<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>adaptability<\/b>. Sure, the schedule is a little different than you\u2019re used to. The food is a little different than you\u2019re used to. The people are a little different than the ones at home. But that\u2019s what makes it an adventure!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">For many, college is a first real taste of<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><b>independence<\/b>. Not for you, campers! During the summer, you\u2019ve solved problems that arise without your parents. You\u2019ve formed meaningful bonds with peers and mentors. You\u2019ve pursued interests on your own, straying from the beaten path.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white;\"><span style=\"color: #222222;\">In short, you\u2019re ahead of the curve! So, LOC\u00a012<sup>th<\/sup><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>graders, rest assured. This whole college thing is going to be a BREEZE!
