Wow…is the summer flying by!! Its hard to believe only there are only two weeks left. We have so much planned coming up which all leads up to everyone’s favorite…Frontier Week!! Below are some of my favorite highlights from the past couple of weeks…
The awesome Olympic Break Out with campers determining what team they were on by finding a baseball card with their picture and team name at the Silverdome. The Owego Olympics is a three day athletics competition with the camp divided into six teams. The teams were Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Mexico, South Africa and Sweden. In the end, Mexico was the winner by two points over Sweden in the closest Olympics in decades. The sportsmanship and team work exhibited by the campers was exemplary.
The Off-Off-Off Broadway production of Peter Pan at Owego. The Owego adapted production was fantastic and a major kudos to Director, Scotty Myers, for writing and directing the play.
Ahhh…the joys of summer time and being at camp…campers cooling off from the high temperatures at the lake and pool during 6th period. Nothing like having fun in the water in the heat of the summer. There is nothing like Rec Swim at LOC.
Owego winning the U15, U13 and U11 Pike County Camp Sports Championships and the U11 Pike County Camp Basketball Championships.

A true highlight of my summer was leadin the Little Red Wagon song around the Junior camp-fire with Bill, Ron and Fernando. I hadn’t done that since I was a camper here many, many, many years ago. It was the AARP version…LOL.
Saying goodbye to our 1st session campers was tough. We really grow so close and you realize the true Brotherhood of Owego in the friendships and bonds that are made at camp. As we welcomed the 2nd session campers, we are reminded how fast the summer is going and we better take advantage of every second!
Visiting Day was fantastic. It was so nice to meet all the parents. Now I can see why we have such fantastic, kind and well-balanced young men here at LOC!
“Switch” Day with Timber Tops was a nice change of pace for the Juniors and “Owegoland” with all the inflatables was a huge hit! The Juniors had LOC all to themselves for a couple days while the Seniors and Hi-Seniors were away on trips. They enjoyed being the BMOC’s of camp.
I personally had an awesome time when I took out 8 campers on a 30 foot Hunter sailboat on Lake Wallenpaupak. Campers learned basics on sailing, rig the boat, sail with a main and jib, sail along with a spinnaker, and each had a turn to skipper the boat using the rudder. Last time I was Captain of a vessel was April 12, 1912…the Titanic.
The Krav Maga martial arts workshop was amazing. We had a Krav Maga specialist demonstrate various techniques to three very enthusiastic groups. The staff and campers were in awe of what they learned.
I could write so much more since every day is so special here and unique. Looking forward to what the last two weeks brings us.
