Today’s vibes were sunny with a side of anticipation. With a regular schedule all day, the campers were able to participate in their favorite activities. We soaked up the vitamin D while giving it our all on the fields and courts. Still, the hum of speculation reverberated throughout camp as everyone continued to theorize on when Frontier Week will break. And that was with the Tents out of camp, paddling down the Delaware River, all day!
Speaking of the Tents, they traveled to the River today with a positive attitude and the intention of having fun. Sure, they paddled their hearts out and added another 18 miles to last week’s 49. That makes a grand total of 67 miles, which is pretty impressive considering they were interrupted on their first attempt by thunderstorms and torrential downpours. We admire their determination to get back on the water! Today’s energy was chill, as the Tents took breaks from paddling to swim, jump off rocks, and enjoy their time together. They made it back to camp in time for dinner, and made quite an entrance — chanting and cheering to the delight of everyone in the dining hall.

From the mind of our own Scotty Myers came this evening’s performance of “Young Frankenstein.” The curtain opened around 8:00, with the entire camp in attendance. From the opening notes, the audience could tell this was going to be a fun show. The plot centered on Freddy Frankenstein, grandson of the infamous doctor, who is trying to shed his family’s image as monster-makers and thus insists that his name is pronounced “Frohn-ken-steen.” His cousin Max takes him to Owego, where Igor (or “Eye-gor”) finds him and convinces him to revisit his grandfather’s laboratory and create a new monster. Aside from that, there were singing counselors, an inspector determined to hunt down Freddy and his monster, and an inspired cameo by the Tents. Oh, and there were also horse sound effects. Needless to say, those of us who have seen the Mel Brooks film laughed out loud numerous times throughout the performance.

After the curtain call, Kyle presented Scotty with a Young Frankenstein t-shirt, and thanked him for his masterful writing and directing. Then, as is tradition, Scotty took center stage and announced the two shows he will write and direct next summer: A Christmas Story, the Musical, and Sponge Bob Square Pants! That last one had the entire camp on its feet, cheering with glee! Although we’re still smiling from ear to ear from tonight’s theatrical achievement, we can’t wait til Summer 2026 when we’ll travel to a pineapple under the sea!

Young Frankenstein will be uploaded to our You Tube channel in its entirety, so grab some popcorn and stay tuned!
