The Meaning of Lake Owego to an Alumni Dad

Harry and Annabel, 2013

Touring Lake Owego with my 7-year-old prospective camper 25 years after my final year there, it all hit me like a tidal wave.

The slamming bunk doors, sports, activities and constant laughter and action. The British counselor’s accents, the line-ups, and having a blast at every meal. The thrill of the adventurous hiking and canoe trips, constantly shooting hoops after dinner during “Supervised Free Activity”, and the hugely anticipated Frontier Week competition.

Most of all, the brotherhood. The loyalty to your bunkmates, the sports rivalries, and the Camp Timber Tops socials. The cool older kids you aspired to be, and the younger kids who looked up to you, and the top-of-the-food-chain “Tent Year” when you ruled the world.

Now, with my son in his 9th year at Owego, and the camp staff, facilities and activities even better than when he 1st started, my wife and I never made a better decision than sending our guy to Lake Owego Camp.

Neither will you!

Steve Schain attended LOC from ’72 through ’77. His son, Harry is 16 (9th year at LOC) and his daughter Annabel is 13 (6th year at CTT). They are from Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania
