Lake Owego Camp is proud to welcome visiting Woodworker, Ryan Carroll. Ryan is a 9th grade English teacher from Cincinnati, Ohio who also turns wood into works of art. He creates bowls, wine stoppers, pens and more and for the next three days he is teaching our campers to carve their own pens from walnut, maple, mahogany, cherry, oak and pecan!
After selecting their wood, they carved the blocks into the shape of a pen on a lathe. The next step is to sand it smooth and stain it to a rich color. They also got to select their metal trim from gold, chrome or gun metal, pressed it together and TADA! A beautiful , handmade pen.
