An *Awesome* Case of the Mondays

As the first normally scheduled day dawned at Owego, there was a strange sensation in the air.

Could it be…a CHILL?

After enduring two straight days of stifling heat and humidity, this morning’s 60-degree surprise was a treat. Campers reached for hoodies and flannel pants (flannel in June?!?!?) and headed to line-up. As the day progressed, the welcome breeze picked up and blew through the trees and across campers’ foreheads.

The camp routine is settling nicely into place. Friendships, new and old, are blossoming and/or falling back into a familiar rhythm. Campers can be seen walking across the Lower Field, arms slung around each other’s shoulders. Buddies are gathering to play ping-pong, knock-hockey, and tetherball. Camp is in an active state of play.

Today marked the first Canteen day of the summer! Letters that were written yesterday and stashed safely in the campers’ bunks, served as the Golden Ticket to the magical world of candy and treats. Present an addressed envelope (don’t forget the stamp!) and you have your choice of any 2 items. The Tents graciously served as Canteen hosts as eager young boys selected Swedish Fish or Skittles or Fun Dip. So many choices! Plenty more Canteen days to look forward to.

One of the 6th grade bunks, Maverick A, had the privilege of leaving camp and heading to Lake Wallenpaupack on a waterskiing trip. In the coming days, campers will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of out-of-camp trips: biking through a picturesque state park with Freedo, canoeing down the Delaware River with our tripping staff, and enjoying a day of Go-Karts, waterslides, and ice cream at Costas Family Fun Park.

Jealous yet?

At Owego, the fun doesn’t end when the sun goes down. Tonight’s evening activities are sure to produce lots of laughs and cheers. The Juniors played a game called Running Radios, where campers try to decipher a secret word using letters earned at various games around camp. The Seniors played Capture the Flag (perfect weather for it!) while the Hi-Seniors competed at Speedball.

Tomorrow’s forecast is for sunny skies, moderate temperatures, and off-the-charts excitement!
