When it rains at camp, we get wet. Our shoes get muddy. Our towels get soggy. Basically, the only thing that doesn’t get dampened is our spirit! Even the best laid plans sometimes get detoured because of the weather. Unfortunately, today’s much-anticipated Owegoland extravaganza had to be canceled. After thunderstorms rattled through camp early this morning, and downpours continued on and off throughout the day, we had to pivot and think on our feet. Good thing that’s what we do best!

After breakfast and inspection, there was indoor choice SFA, where campers could choose from activities located in covered areas around camp. After that, everyone came together in the HBC for bunk games. After lunch and rest hour, we headed to the dining hall for movie time! Not only did the Juniors get to watch The Lego Movie, but they enjoyed delicious kettle corn AND root beer floats. Everything WAS awesome!

Our Senior and Hi-Senior overnight trips continued as planned, with the exception of the 100-miler. With the heavy rain and flash flood warnings, our Tents wisely returned to camp and waited out the storm. They’ve already paddled 49 miles, and will pick up where they left off  when they return to the river in a few days. The remaining Upper Camp trips will return to camp later tonight. Good news for all: Late sleep tomorrow!!!

Tonight’s evening activity was a crowd-favorite: Junior Lip Sync! Each bunk chose a song, decided on a costume, and choreographed a routine. Silver lining moment? The Tents were available to help, and each bunk got its very own Tent to be a part of the act. Can you imagine how cool that must have been for our Juniors? Again, best laid plans. But what started out as a disappointment for our oldest campers who wanted nothing more than to be out on the water, ended as a night of laughs and cheers and lots of overjoyed Junior campers!

We call that a win for everyone.
