Thursday started out like it always does at Lake Owego – with Late Sleep! Campers and staff rejoiced at the opportunity to stay in bed a whole extra hour, followed by a “deep clean” inspection and double-SFA morning. SFA stands for “Supervised Free Activity” and allows campers to move around camp to counselor-monitored areas like the tennis courts, lake, and HBC. It was a much-needed relaxed morning for everyone!
The weather was perfect for recreation on land AND on water! Our illustrious co-director, Jeff “Freedo” Freedman set out on a mountain biking trip to Promised Land State Park with a group of 9th, 10th, and 11th grade campers. After a scenic yet strenuous 12-mile trek, the group stopped by a local shop for some ice cream. Meanwhile, in watersports news, half of Bunk Sioux went out waterskiing on Lake Wallenpaupack in the morning, and the other half went in the afternoon. Out-of-camp adventure trips are always a highlight for our older campers!
For evening activity, the Junior division ventured to the Upper Field and played a spirited game of Air Raid. Known as one of the highlights of Frontier Week, this game involves teams running to gather tennis balls, earning points, and stacking plastic cups – and then aiming those tennis balls at another team’s plastic cup tower. The team with the most cups left standing is the winner.
Thursday nights mean only one thing to our Seniors and Hi-Seniors: SOCIAL TIME! Buses carried the campers over to Timber Tops for a pajama-themed social with our sister camp. Music, snacks, and socializing were on the agenda. Brothers were reunited with sisters, friends hung out and laughed, and everyone had a great time! See you on the 4th, CTT!
